Listening in Dispute

video performances on doors and access to the territory

Two percussionists position themselves in front of doors and access points to key spaces within the Cracolândia territory. The juxtaposition of these sites—music schools, theaters, concert halls, bars, and train and metro stations—exposes underlying power relations and makes visible policies of access, hospitality, or exclusion directed at those who live in or move through the territory. Through incisive gestures, in performances that are both intense and fleeting, the two percussionists engage in a sonic confrontation, competing for the spectators’ attention and listening.
